Indian multinational corporation Wipro has announced that it is partnering with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, in order to conduct advanced applied research in autonomous systems, robotics and 5G space.
According to a company statement, both the organisations have jointly set up the Wipro IISc Research and Innovation Network (WIRIN), a hybrid industry-academia collaboration unit, which will drive idea discovery, research and innovation in technology and product design.
“We are excited to collaborate with the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, one of the most prestigious research institutes in the world. This is a significant step towards strengthening our position to be at the forefront of these transformative technologies,” said Abidali Z. Neemuchwala, CEO and MD, Wipro Limited
Talking about the team at WIRIN, it will be a group of senior professors and research staff from IISc and engineers, developers, architects and researchers from the autonomous systems, robotics and 5G domains at Wipro. Also, the entire team will completely focus on the R&D of sought after techs like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Visual Computing, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Vehicle-to-everything communication (V2X).
Furthermore, while the insights from the research will be leveraged by the Wipro for the benefit of its customers as well as the ecosystem, IISc will also benefit from advancing its research goal and capacity building.
“IISc believes collaboration between academia and the industry is a great way of solving challenging real-world problems. We welcome and thank Wipro for supporting this high-impact, collaborative research and innovation initiative,” said Anurag Kumar, Director of IISc Bangalore. “We are confident that the strong technology capabilities and capable talent from both organizations will come together to make notable strides in these domains.”
